Why visit
Aalborg pairs a manageable old town of half-timbered houses around Jomfru Ane Gade with bold modern architecture along the redeveloped harbour. May through August is the sweet spot, when long daylight makes the Limfjord cruises and Aalborg Karneval (Scandinavia's biggest carnival, late May) sing.
When to avoid
December through February is dark, damp, and frequently below freezing, sunset before 4pm makes the harbour walks bleak. The city largely shuts down between Christmas and New Year, and ferry/boat tours don't run. For Aalborg, opening hours and movement are not secondary details. In Aalborg, a good plan groups nearby stops, leaves slack for transport, and allows for small museums, churches, or galleries to close without much notice.
