Why visit
Alassio is the rare Ligurian resort with proper sand beach, easy strolls to medieval Albenga, and the romantic offshore Gallinara island. Best months are May, June, and September, sea is warm, crowds are bearable, and aperitivo terraces stay open late. The Hanbury Botanical Gardens are an easy day trip west.
When to avoid
August brings wall-to-wall Italian families and prices can triple. Coastal traffic on the Aurelia road clogs by 10am. November through February many restaurants and boutiques shut, and the Ligurian rains arrive in earnest. A day in Alassio should be built after the practical checks, not before them. For Alassio, the map may look tighter than the day feels.
