Why visit
Albi is a southwest France stop for the brick cathedral, Toulouse-Lautrec museum, river views, and a compact old city above the Tarn. It works when the route wants beauty without a large-city day.
When to avoid
August can be sweltering (35°C+) and crowded with French visitors. The cathedral interior offers welcome cool, but lines build. November through February is grey and damp. Many smaller museums close Mondays year-round. Use Albi with practical movement built into the plan from the start. In Albi, a good plan groups nearby stops, leaves slack for transport, and allows for small museums, churches, or galleries to close without much notice.
