Why visit
Bam belongs in the atlas for architecture, desert-edge urban history, and the rebuilt memory of the citadel after the 2003 earthquake. It is a serious heritage record, not a generic city pin. Keep it as long-term research material unless the travel environment changes.
When to avoid
Do not treat Bam as a current travel recommendation. In July 2026, the U.S. State Department listed Iran at Level 4, Do Not Travel, citing terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, arbitrary arrest, and wrongful detention risks. For this atlas, Bam should stay visible as heritage context but not be promoted as a near-term trip.
