Why visit
Beaugency is a perfect overnight on a Loire à Vélo cycling tour or a base for visiting the Loire châteaux (Chambord 25 km, Blois 30 km). Best months are May, June, and September, mild, golden-stone light, and the river towpaths fully open. The medieval festival in late August is wonderfully un-touristy.
When to avoid
Skip January to February for cold gray river weather and sustained closures of small museums. The town is tiny, a single overnight is plenty. Sunday and Monday closures hit even the bakery in some weeks. For Beaugency, check hours, tickets, transport, and neighborhood distances before the route becomes too rigid. Do not let the map of Beaugency make the route look simpler than it is.
