Why visit
Beit She'an's archaeological park is the obvious draw draw, a half-day walk through Roman, Byzantine, and Crusader layers, plus the imposing tel above. Combine with the Sahne (Gan HaShlosha) hot springs nearby and Belvoir Crusader fortress 15 km north. Best months are October to April, the rift valley is very hot the rest of the year.
When to avoid
Do not visit Beit She'an expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. The map of Beit She'an is only half the problem. Hours, heat, rain, crowds, and transport decide what is realistic. In Beit She'an, it is better to build a tight route than to rely on long transfers between secondary stops. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Beit She'an as a base rather than the whole destination.
