Why visit
BH has Brazil minus the beach-tourist sheen, Niemeyer's Pampulha lakeside masterpieces, the Inhotim contemporary art park 60 km away (a reason to add whole trip), the colonial mining towns of Ouro Preto and Tiradentes 100 km south, and an unmatched boteco bar culture. Best months are April to September, the dry, mild high-plateau winter.
When to avoid
Do not visit Belo Horizonte expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. Do the practical reading of Belo Horizonte first: hours, routes, weather, crowds, and how far the neighborhoods really sit from one another. Street crime and traffic shape the visit. Keep phones and cameras discreet, use taxis or rideshares after dark, and avoid letting one beach or nightlife district define the whole trip.
