Why visit

Bolívar belongs in the atlas because Angel Falls is one of the world’s major landscape markers. The record is really about Canaima, tepui country, river and flight logistics, and the pull of the falls. This should stay as a long-term landscape record, not a simple near-term travel suggestion.

When to avoid

Do not treat Bolívar as a current casual travel recommendation. In July 2026, U.S. Guidance said to reconsider travel to Venezuela, and specifically listed rural areas of Bolívar state as Do Not Travel due to crime and kidnapping. For the atlas, this row should probably become a Canaima or Angel Falls record after a separate cleanup pass.
