Morelos has had elevated cartel-related violence in recent years, check current advisories. Stick to central Cuernavaca and Tepoztlán during daylight, avoid driving rural highways at night. Don't display valuables. Mexico City weekenders pack the city Friday to Sunday afternoons. Book ahead. A day in Cuernavaca should be built after the practical checks, not before them. In Cuernavaca, even a compact-looking map can produce a slow visit.
