Why visit
Daejeon is a 50-minute KTX ride from Seoul, making it an easy day trip or stopover on the Seoul to Busan route. Highlights are the Yuseong hot-spring district (free public foot baths and bathhouses fed by 40°C waters), Hanbat Arboretum, the National Science Museum, and the eclectic Sungsimdang bakery (founded 1956, an institution worth queuing for). Spring and autumn are best. The Daejeon 0-Bike Festival in June is a quirky local event.
When to avoid
Do not visit Daejeon expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. Do the practical reading of Daejeon first: hours, routes, weather, crowds, and how far the neighborhoods really sit from one another. In Daejeon, keep the plan compact, check hours before arrival, and use taxis or rideshares when public transport is inconvenient or safety varies by area. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Daejeon as a base rather than the whole destination.
