Why visit
Visit Dhaka if the point is to understand Bangladesh up close. It is intense, layered, and culturally important, with river movement, old-city streets, food, rickshaws, mosques, museums, and contemporary South Asian city life all pressing together.
When to avoid
Do not treat Dhaka as an easy casual city break. In July 2026, U.S. Guidance listed Bangladesh at Level 3, Reconsider Travel, citing kidnapping, unrest, crime, and terrorism, so this should be a deliberate trip with local planning.
