Why visit
November through February (the dry season) is best for hiking the Bamboutos crater lakes and exploring the surrounding Bamiléké chiefdoms. The Musée des Civilisations on the university campus is one of the best ethnographic museums in central Africa. The Chefferie de Bafou and Bandjoun's bamboo-and-thatch palace nearby are visually striking. Cool evenings and the famous Saturday market make Dschang a refreshing pause from the coastal humidity of Douala.
When to avoid
Do not visit Dschang expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. In Dschang, opening hours, transport, weather, crowds, and distance can shape the day more than the list of sights. For Dschang, group stops tightly, verify hours, and use a ride when transit, darkness, or neighborhood conditions make that wiser. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Dschang as a base rather than the whole destination.
