أهلا وسهلا في الجيزة | Welcome to Giza (Egyptian Arabic)
Giza is the third-largest city in Egypt by area and sixteenth-largest city in Africa by population. It is the capital of Giza Governorate with a total population of 4,458,135 as of 2023. It is located on the west bank of the Nile opposite central Cairo, and is a part of the Greater Cairo metropolis.

Giza is essentially synonymous with the pyramids; standing at the foot of Khufu's massive limestone bulk is one of travel's great experiences. Combine with the new Grand Egyptian Museum (opened 2024 just north of the plateau, now housing Tutankhamun's treasures), camel rides on the desert ridge for the widely recognized 9-pyramid panorama, and the sound-and-light show at night. Add Saqqara and Dahshur for older, more peaceful pyramid sites. Best November through March.
Giza is essential for many travelers, but the area around the pyramids can be tiring. Expect aggressive selling, camel and horse ride pressure, inflated prices, and a need to say no repeatedly. Arrange tickets, transport, and guiding in advance if you want a calmer visit. Heat, glare, traffic, and air pollution can make the site feel harder than expected. Go early, carry water, and do not plan the pyramids as a quick add-on between museum stops in Cairo.
From May through September Giza bakes; daytime highs of 35 to 40°C, occasional heat waves past 42°C, and almost no rain ever (under 60 mm per year). The khamsin desert wind blows in spring with sand and dust. Pyramid stones radiate heat for hours after sunset. Plan visits before 10 am or after 4 pm; bring more water than you think you need. Nights stay warm at 22 to 26°C.

From December through February Giza enjoys ideal weather; daytime highs of 19 to 22°C, cool nights down to 8 to 11°C, brilliant sunshine, and almost no rain. The desert chill at night is real; bring a sweater for sunrise pyramid visits. This is peak tourist season for good reason; book accommodation and pyramid tickets ahead. Cool evenings are useful for Nile-side dinners across in central Cairo.
