Why visit
Visit Gongju for Baekje history at a manageable city scale. Tombs, fortress context, museums, and the river setting make it a useful counterpoint to Seoul, Gyeongju, and Busan. It works as a heritage stop when the Korea route wants older political history without turning the day into only transit.
When to avoid
Do not visit Gongju expecting the density of Seoul or the fame of Gyeongju. Its value is quieter and more specific. Check museum hours and transport links before going. The city reads best when the heritage sites are sequenced cleanly.
