Why visit
The Heyuan Dinosaur Museum holds the largest dinosaur-egg collection on Earth (Guinness-recorded), Wanlü Lake offers boat tours and hot springs, and the surrounding Hakka villages preserve fortified earthen tulou-style homes and traditional Hakka cuisine, stuffed tofu, salt-baked chicken, and yong tau foo.
When to avoid
Summers are oppressively hot and humid with frequent typhoon-driven downpours. Winters can be raw and damp without central heating. English is essentially absent. Download an offline translator.
