Why visit
Use Humenné as a base for the eastern Carpathian wilderness, the Poloniny National Park (one of Europe's last truly dark-sky reserves), the wooden Greek Catholic and Orthodox churches of the Carpathian Ruthenian villages (UNESCO-listed), and the dramatic Sninsky Kameň cliff walks. The open-air folk-architecture museum on the manor grounds is small but rewarding.
When to avoid
Do not visit Humenné expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. Do the practical reading of Humenné first: hours, routes, weather, crowds, and how far the neighborhoods really sit from one another. A safer and clearer day in Humenné usually comes from grouping nearby sites and avoiding unnecessary late or awkward transfers. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Humenné as a base rather than the whole destination.
