Why visit
Mapo Hall on the city's tallest hill offers the well known panorama of rusted iron rooftops stretching to the horizon. Add the National Museum of Unity, the bustling Bodija Market, the historic Cocoa House (once West Africa's tallest building), Yoruba egungun masquerade festivals, and superb amala-ewedu and gbegiri stew at street-side mama-put kitchens. The city is the heart of Yoruba intellectual life.
When to avoid
Do not visit Ibadan expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. For Ibadan, the practical constraints are part of the itinerary: hours, transport, weather, crowds, and the distance between worthwhile areas. For Ibadan, group stops tightly, verify hours, and use a ride when transit, darkness, or neighborhood conditions make that wiser. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Ibadan as a base rather than the whole destination.
