Why visit
Juanjui is a Peruvian Amazon-edge base for river movement, forest roads, local markets, and routes toward Rio Abiseo National Park. It works when the trip is about access and landscape more than city comfort.
When to avoid
Infrastructure is limited, English is rare, and heavy rains can disrupt roads. Carry cash, use local drivers for out-of-town trips, and expect basic hotels rather than a tourism scene. Use Juanjuí with a local route rather than a constantly expanding one. In Juanjuí, it is usually better to choose a nearby church, market, cafe, gallery, or walk than to cross town for a secondary stop.
