The reconstructed Cathedral on Kant Island holds the philosopher's tomb, still a pilgrimage site for German visitors, and the Museum of the World Ocean displays Soviet submarines you can walk through. The Curonian Spit, a UNESCO-listed dune peninsula, sits an hour north and is one of the Baltic's most surreal landscapes. Late spring and early autumn are best.
Do not visit Kaliningrad expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. Do the practical reading of Kaliningrad first: hours, routes, weather, crowds, and how far the neighborhoods really sit from one another. For Kaliningrad, check the practical conditions first, then decide whether walking, transit, or a taxi makes sense for each move. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Kaliningrad as a base rather than the whole destination.
