Why visit
Kedougou is a southeastern Senegal base for Bassari country, hills, waterfalls, markets, and Niokolo-Koba routes. It works when the trip wants inland landscape and culture far from Dakar.
When to avoid
Do not assume Kédougou can be handled as a simple cluster of adjacent stops. In Kédougou, keep the route local once the day begins. In Kédougou, it is usually better to choose a nearby church, market, cafe, gallery, or walk than to cross town for a secondary stop. The route should leave enough slack for closures, delays, and the distance between neighborhoods.
