Why visit
Most travellers come for cheap accommodation while exploring Strasbourg, hop on tram line D and you're in the Petite France quarter in 15 minutes. Kehl itself offers the riverside Garden of the Two Banks, a Friday market with both German and Alsatian produce, and remarkably good prices on French wine, cheese, and pharmacy goods that Germans cross to stock up on. The Rhine cycle path north and south from town is excellent flat riding.
When to avoid
Do not visit Kehl expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. In Kehl, a good plan starts with the constraints, not with the number of sights. For Kehl, group stops tightly, verify hours, and use a ride when transit, darkness, or neighborhood conditions make that wiser. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Kehl as a base rather than the whole destination.
