Why visit
Travel to Russia is currently inadvisable, see the avoid section. In peacetime, Krasnodar offered the new Krasnodar Stadium and the futuristic Krasnodar Park designed by Sergei Galitsky, one of the most striking landscape projects in modern Europe. The Kuban Cossack Museum and the cafe scene around Krasnaya Street add city context. The city is also the natural gateway to the Black Sea resorts of Sochi, Anapa, and Gelendzhik.
When to avoid
Russia: due to ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine, most Western foreign offices currently advise against all travel, sanctions, payment-card outages (Visa/Mastercard don't work), and limited consular support are major obstacles. Krasnodar Krai has been hit by Ukrainian drone strikes targeting fuel depots and military airfields. Check your government's advisory carefully before any planning. Summer afternoons are very hot. Smoking restrictions are strictly enforced.
