Why visit
Maputo's prawns are legendary, freshly grilled and drowned in piri-piri sauce at beachfront restaurants like Costa do Sol. The Central Market and Mercado do Peixe are essential for cashews, capulana fabrics, and the day's catch. Tofo and Inhambane beaches (north up the coast) make easy escapes for whale-shark snorkeling. The Marginal seafront promenade comes alive at sunset with joggers and grillers. Live marrabenta music in colonial-era cafes is memorable.
