Why visit
Most travelers won't. This is small-town Minnesota deeply off the tourist trail. Those who pass through find the Chippewa County Historical Society, the Carnegie Library (1908), and the riverside Smith Park. Lac qui Parle State Park (15 minutes south) offers Minnesota River bottoms wildlife and migratory waterfowl in spring and fall. The Fiesta Days celebration in mid-July honors the sister-city link with mariachi bands and Uruguayan-style barbecue.
