The Gateway of India and Taj Mahal Palace Hotel anchor the seafront in Colaba. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) is a UNESCO Victorian-Gothic train station that's a working monument. Walk the Marine Drive promenade at sunset, the 'Queen's Necklace' lights up the curved bay. When to avoid
Monsoon (June to September) brings catastrophic flooding and disrupted transport, some areas literally inaccessible. Air pollution is bad October to February. Crowds and traffic make 5 km feel like 50. Allow extra time. Be cautious of taxi/auto-rickshaw scams. Use Uber or Ola. Don't photograph police, military, or some religious sites. Petty crime in tourist areas is moderate, watch belongings.
