Why visit
Murcia Cathedral's baroque facade is one of Spain's masterpieces, with a 95 m bell tower offering city views. The Real Casino de Murcia is a sumptuous 19th-century social club open to visitors. Murcia's tapas bars are among Spain's best value, try zarangollo (egg-and-zucchini scramble) and pastel de carne (meat pie). The Holy Week processions are intense and lesser-known than Sevilla's. Use Murcia as a base for the Mar Menor coast (45 minutes), the Sierra Espuña, and Cartagena (1 hour) for striking Roman ruins.

Do not visit Murcia expecting every worthwhile stop to be close together or easy to improvise. In Murcia, opening hours, transport, weather, crowds, and distance can shape the day more than the list of sights. A safer and clearer day in Murcia usually comes from grouping nearby sites and avoiding unnecessary late or awkward transfers. If the main interest is one nearby site, it may be better to treat Murcia as a base rather than the whole destination.
