Currently, you shouldn't, see avoid below. In peacetime, the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Museum traces 230 years of naval construction. The Mykolaiv Astronomical Observatory (founded 1821, oldest in Ukraine) sits on a hill above the river. The Yacht Club marina and the riverside parks offer pleasant strolls. Local cuisine includes excellent Black Sea fish and Ukrainian classics like borscht and varenyky. Easy day trips would be to the Bug River canyon and Olbia archaeological site (ancient Greek colony).

Mykolaiv is in an active war zone, do not travel here. Russian missile and drone strikes hit civilian infrastructure regularly. Air-raid sirens are constant. Most foreign offices forbid travel to all of Ukraine outside specific exceptions. Even if cease-fires happen, unexploded ordnance and landmine risk will persist for years.
