Why visit
Naoussa is a northern Greece base for wine, mountain edges, Macedonian history, and easy reach toward Aigai at Vergina. It works when the Greece route needs inland context beyond islands and Athens.
When to avoid
Public transport from Thessaloniki is slow, a rental car is far better. Wineries often require advance booking, especially in summer. The Apocrias Carnival packs the town beyond capacity, book hotels months ahead. August holiday closures hit some restaurants. Mountain weather changes fast, pack layers even in summer. Avoid driving the narrow Vermio mountain roads in winter without snow chains. The 1822 destruction memorial is taken very seriously locally. Be respectful at the Stoubanoi remembrance site.
