Why visit
Visit Osaka for food, markets, theater, museums, architecture, and the energy of a large working city. Dotonbori, Kuromon Market, Nakanoshima, Osaka Castle, the National Museum of Art, Shinsekai, Sumiyoshi Taisha, and the city's bunraku tradition give it more range than a simple nightlife stop. Osaka also works well as a base for Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, Himeji, and Koyasan. For a short stay, keep one day in Osaka itself before using the rail network too aggressively.
When to avoid
Osaka is not the best choice if you want quiet gardens and old-capital atmosphere. It is busy, commercial, bright, and food-driven, and some central entertainment districts can feel overwhelming at night. Summer heat and humidity can be tiring, while transit hubs are large enough to slow a rushed plan. If the trip is mainly temples and gardens, stay in Kyoto and use Osaka as a day or evening visit.
