Visit Permet for the Benja thermal baths and the Vjosa valley. This is less a city-break stop than a landscape-and-soak stop, where the old bridge, warm pools, river gorge, and slow town rhythm belong to the same day. Permet makes sense when an Albania trip has room for nature, thermal water, and a quieter inland route. Use it as a southern Albania base, then let the baths and valley carry the visit.

When to avoid

Do not visit Permet expecting a dense city itinerary. Come when the route already points through southern Albania, or when the thermal baths are the point. Road time matters here. If the trip is short and built around Tirana, the coast, or one major museum day, Permet can turn into too much travel for one soak.

About Permet

Përmet is a town and municipality in Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. The municipality of Përmet consists of the administrative units of Çarçovë, Frashër, Petran, Qendër Piskovë and Përmet. The total population is 7,980 as of 2023, in a total area of 602.47 km2. The population of the municipal unit at the 2023 census was 4,809. It is flanked by the Vjosë river, which runs along the Trebeshinë-Dhëmbel-Nemërçkë mountain chain, between Trebeshinë and Dhëmbel mountains, and through the Këlcyrë Gorge.
