Aus sechs mach eins | From six, make one (Rodgau's founding motto)
Rodgau isn't a typical tourist destination but offers a calm, affordable base for exploring the Frankfurt Rhine-Main area without the city-center prices. The town has pleasant tree-lined neighborhoods, several attractive small Catholic churches in the older village cores, and access to the Bulau and Römerhof outdoor recreation areas. The Rodgau-Rollwald lake (a former gravel pit) offers swimming and windsurfing in summer. Use Rodgau as a quiet bedroom community while day-tripping into Frankfurt's Old Town, the Goethe House, the Romer city hall, and the major Städel Museum. The Hanau and Aschaffenburg areas are also within easy reach.
Rodgau has essentially nothing to draw international tourists, don't make it a destination, only a base. Public transport beyond the S-Bahn is limited. Renting a car helps. Sundays see most shops shuttered. The flat agricultural surroundings have limited visual appeal. Skip if you want medieval German charm, head to Heidelberg, Rothenburg, or Würzburg instead. The Frankfurt airport (FRA) is 30 km west and easily reached, but watch for traffic on the A3 motorway during rush hours.
