The Mediterranean beaches, Gordon, Frishman, Banana, are the city's beating heart, free and busy year-round. Wander the White City Bauhaus blocks around Rothschild Boulevard, hit the Carmel Market for shakshuka and fresh produce, and explore the labyrinthine alleys of ancient Jaffa with its flea market and Arab seafood restaurants. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art and Beit Hatfutsot (Museum of the Jewish People) anchor the cultural scene. Eat your way through Sarona Market and the Florentin neighborhood. When to avoid

Israel-Palestine conflict carries persistent security risk, check current government advisories before traveling, as conditions change rapidly. Rocket fire from Gaza has reached Tel Aviv repeatedly. Familiarize yourself with shelter locations and Home Front Command protocols. Saturday (Shabbat, Friday sundown to Saturday sundown) shuts down most transport and many shops. Costs are very high, European prices or above. Beware sun and dehydration in summer. Jellyfish blooms in July to August.

About Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv, officially Tel Aviv-Yafo, and also known as Tel Aviv-Jaffa, is the most populous city in the Gush Dan metropolitan area of Israel. Located on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline and with a population of 494,900, it is the economic and technological center of the country and a global high-tech hub. If East Jerusalem is considered part of Israel, Tel Aviv is the country's second-most-populous city, after Jerusalem; if not, Tel Aviv is the most populous city, ahead of West Jerusalem.
