Why visit
Toledo is a compact Spain essential: hilltop streets, cathedral, synagogues, El Greco, river views, and a dense old core above the Tagus. It works as a day trip, but an overnight gives the city quieter hours.
When to avoid
Mid-summer (July to August) is very hot. Often over 35°C. And the narrow streets offer little shade. Holy Week (Easter) has beautiful processions but accommodations book out months ahead. Don't arrive on a Monday expecting museums open. Most close that day. For Toledo, opening hours and movement are not secondary details. In Toledo, a good plan groups nearby stops, leaves slack for transport, and allows for small museums, churches, or galleries to close without much notice.
