Why visit
Visit Yerevan for Armenian history, architecture, music, cafes, museums, and the way the city connects to monasteries and mountain landscapes. Republic Square, the Cascade, Matenadaran, the Armenian Genocide Memorial, Vernissage, churches, concert halls, and views toward Ararat give a strong first frame. For one or two days, stay central and choose one museum, one memorial or archive, and one evening plan. With more time, add Garni, Geghard, Etchmiadzin, Khor Virap, or slower cafe and neighborhood days.
When to avoid
Yerevan is not ideal if you want a dense medieval old town. Much of the city is Soviet or post-Soviet in scale, and summer heat can be tiring on exposed streets. Use taxis for longer moves and day trips. Regional politics can affect travel beyond the capital, so check current conditions before building an itinerary around border areas or long overland routes.
