Why visit
Everland Resort, a Disney-scale theme park with the legendary T Express wooden roller coaster, a safari, and seasonal flower festivals, is the obvious draw, especially for families. The Korean Folk Village in Suwon (administratively just over the line) recreates Joseon-era farmhouses, markets, and offers daily traditional performances (mask dances, equestrian shows). The Hoam Art Museum at Everland holds Samsung's traditional Korean art collection. Day trips to Suwon's UNESCO Hwaseong Fortress are easy. Try Korean barbecue at one of Yongin's many top-quality galbi restaurants and the local specialty paengi tteok (spinning-top rice cakes).
When to avoid
Everland gets unbearably crowded on weekends, school holidays, and during cherry blossom and tulip festivals, visit on a weekday and arrive at opening. Public transport from Seoul is good but the trip plus park time makes for a long day. Consider an Everland-area hotel. Yongin itself is mostly residential and lacks a tourist downtown, don't expect old-town atmosphere. Korean is essential outside the resort. Summer humidity is brutal. Winter is really cold.
