Complejo Ferroviario de San Rosendo

San Rosendo grew around one of the strategic railway junctions south of the Biobío. Trains began operating here in 1873, but the surviving industrial complex mainly records the network's expansion between 1929 and 1934. Its roundhouse, workshops, coal plant, chimney, water towers, offices, and repair shed supported both trains and a railway workforce that shaped the town.

The complex became a National Historic Monument in 2024. Its exposed reinforced-concrete industrial architecture is unusual enough to read from across the river plain. The active Laja-Talcahuano passenger stop remains here, but the operating platform does not imply unrestricted access to every workshop building in the protected complex.
