Estação do Valongo

Estação do Valongo opened in 1867 as the Santos terminus of the São Paulo Railway, the first railway in the state. The line carried coffee down from São Paulo to the port and brought immigrants inland. The original neoclassical station was rebuilt with a French Neo-Renaissance face in 1899.

The building now houses Santos tourism offices and sits at the end of the central VLT extension. It is also beside the historic tram route and across from the Pelé Museum. The railway history is the reason to stop, but the location also makes it an easy anchor for walking the Valongo district.
