Estación Chillán

Chillán station is the southern terminal of EFE Central's main year-round long-distance route from Santiago. The railway first reached the city in the 1870s, tying its grain economy to Talcahuano and the national network. The current station was built in 1941 after the 1939 earthquake destroyed much of Chillán.

Its restrained concrete architecture belongs to the city's post-earthquake modernist reconstruction rather than the ornate nineteenth-century station tradition. The surrounding Ultraestación district still carries the imprint of railway workers, warehouses, and industry. Modern raised platforms now receive reserved BMU and UTS trains from Estación Central.
