About

Estación Desamparados was Lima's grand Ferrocarril Central terminal. Rafael Marquina designed the current three-story station, which opened in 1912 with imported concrete, stained glass, a clock, and cedar doors. The building was protected as a national monument in 1972 and now houses the Casa de la Literatura Peruana.

Ferrocarril Central Andino uses Desamparados for occasional Lima to Huancayo excursion trains. There is no daily passenger service. On ordinary days this is a cultural center, while announced holiday departures temporarily return the building to its original railway role.
