About

Estación Huancayo is the eastern endpoint for Ferrocarril Central Andino's occasional passenger excursions from Lima. The railway reached Huancayo in 1908 after climbing the Rímac valley, crossing the high Andes, and passing through La Oroya. Freight remains the regular work of the line. Passenger trains run only on specifically announced holiday dates.

The Huancayo to Huancavelica Tren Macho is a different railway. It remains suspended during its modernization program, so a Lima excursion ticket does not create an onward rail connection to Huancavelica.
