Estación Freire

Freire, Chile

railway_station

About

Freire station dates to the railway extension from Temuco toward Pitrufquén, inaugurated in 1898. EFE restored the old station for the return of local passenger service in 2023, repairing its copper roof, waiting room, toilets, and entrances. A new raised platform brought the working stop up to modern accessible boarding standards.

That combination makes Freire different from the compact new halts elsewhere on the southern extension. The historic building is again part of an active regional service rather than a detached railway relic. Trains run toward Temuco and Pitrufquén on a limited schedule, with no normal Sunday or holiday service south of Temuco.
