Estación Puerto Varas

Puerto Varas, Chile

About

Puerto Varas station returned to regular passenger use in 2025 as the middle stop on the Llanquihue-Puerto Montt service. The railway first arrived in 1913, helping connect the lakeside settlement with the national network and the port at Puerto Montt.

The station belongs to a later generation of southern railway architecture associated with reinforced concrete and the modernizing work of EFE. Its return is practical as well as historic. Trains cover Puerto Varas to La Paloma in Puerto Montt in about 27 minutes, avoiding the road congestion around Alerce. The Puerto Montt terminal is two kilometers from downtown, so the final feeder connection still matters.
