Estación San Bernardo

The railway reached San Bernardo in September 1857, completing the first 16 km stage of the Ferrocarril del Sur from Santiago. The station building follows the early Alameda pattern, with broad corridors, timber columns, and ornamental wooden arches. It became a National Historic Monument in 1981.

The protected building and the working station are related but not identical experiences. Earthquake damage closed the old building, while EFE's raised modern platforms continue handling Nos, Rancagua, San Fernando, and selected Chillán trains. Use the signed passenger entrance for travel rather than assuming the historic doorway leads to the platforms.
