Estación Talca

Talca is the key rail junction in the Maule. The main north-south railway reached the city in the 1870s, and the station now handles Santiago-Chillán trains and the Curicó-Linares regional service. The narrow-gauge branch to Constitución leaves the main corridor here.

That branch makes Talca more than an intermediate stop. The complete Talca-Constitución railway was declared a National Historic Monument in 2007, protecting its stations, railcars, turntables, bridges, tunnels, and other engineering works. The modern Talca platforms provide the transfer, but the branch runs to a sparse timetable. A connection only works when both published schedules line up.
