Estación Peñarol and Museo Don Edgar Mazza

Peñarol station began operating in 1891 as part of a much larger railway town of workshops, warehouses, workers' housing, and social buildings. The station's English railway architecture came from the Central Uruguay Railway. By 1907 the workshop complex covered roughly 33,000 square meters.

The station and its surrounding railway ensemble have been protected as a National Historic Monument since 1975. The Museo Don Edgar Mazza occupies the old waiting rooms, ticket office, parcels area, and station offices. Museum access is limited and may require advance arrangement, but the station plaza and surviving railway equipment still make the scale of the former complex easier to understand.
