The Pont du Gard was built shortly before the Christian era to allow the aqueduct of Nîmes (which is almost 50 km long) to cross the Gard river. The Roman architects and hydraulic engineers who designed this bridge, which stands almost 50 m high and is on three levels – the longest measuring 275 m – created a technical as well as an artistic masterpiece.

Hours
The Pont du Gard is open year-round from 8 AM to midnight. The cultural areas have specific opening hours depending on the season: - November to February: 9 AM to 5 PM - March and October: 9 AM to 6 PM - April, May, June, and September: 9 AM to 7 PM - July and August: 9 AM to 8 PM Please note that spaces are closed every Monday morning for maintenance, and there is a winter closure of spaces from November 3, 2025, to February 27, 2026.
