About
The Rudolfinum is a Neo-Renaissance concert hall and gallery building on Jan Palach Square beside the Vltava. Architects Josef Zítek and Josef Schulz designed it as a House of Artists, and it opened in 1885. Antonín Dvořák conducted the Czech Philharmonic's first concert here in 1896 in the hall that now bears his name. The building served as the Czechoslovak parliament from 1919 to 1939, then returned fully to music and art after later restoration. The Czech Philharmonic remains based here, and Galerie Rudolfinum occupies part of the building. Public access depends on concert, tour, and gallery schedules rather than one set of building hours.
