History

Augsburg opened a horse tram in 1881 and converted to electric operation in 1898. The current network radiates from the center and Hauptbahnhof into the surrounding districts and Königsbrunn.

Tickets and trains

Use the local transport association’s ticket or app. A ticket normally transfers between local rail, tram, and bus services inside the purchased zones. Paper tickets may require validation, so check the machine and platform signs before boarding.

The assigned tram, Stadtbahn, or metro vehicle can change by departure. Capacity, floor height, and air conditioning are not consistent across every German urban fleet. Seating and crowding change with train length and time of day.

Accessibility

Step-free boarding and elevator access vary by station. Check the operator’s current elevator and platform information when it matters for the trip.
