The regional line connects Kalambaka and Trikala with Karditsa, Sofades, and the main-line interchange at Palaiofarsalos. The current timetable has only two train pairs, and onward travel toward Larissa or Thessaloniki may require a bus connection.

The route descends from the Thessaly railway network opened in the 1880s. It was later converted from meter gauge to standard gauge, but flood damage in 2023 broke through rail journeys and left a mixed train-and-bus service pattern.

Buy a Hellenic Train ticket online, in the app, or at an operating ticket office. There is no contactless bank-card tap-in. Check the itinerary details because the same booking system can combine this train with a replacement bus after Palaiofarsalos.

Regional diesel rolling stock serves the operating rail section. Air-conditioning, seating, and toilets depend on the assigned train, and low frequency leaves little room to recover from a delay or a missed connection.

Step-free access is not consistent across this route, and Hellenic Train does not promise unplanned wheelchair boarding at every station. Arrange mobility assistance at least 24 hours ahead. Confirm that the segment shown in a journey result is marked as train rather than bus.
