Mike’s notes
Kyoto’s two subway lines cross at Karasuma Oike. They are useful for the central north-south and east-west trips, but buses and private railways still cover many major sights.
Tickets and access
Buy a single ticket or use a compatible nationwide IC card where the operator lists it. Direct contactless bank-card tapping is not a network-wide Japanese standard, so do not rely on a foreign bank card unless the operator specifically shows it as accepted.
Stations provide elevators, tactile guidance, accessible toilets, and staff assistance. Check the operator’s accessibility map when a specific entrance matters because not every street entrance is step-free.
